Oma

On Friday, my grandmother, Carla Doscher Sullivan, past away. She was 86 years old. My fondest memory I have is her telling us how she met my grandfather during WWII.

My grandma was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, and lived near the seaport with her family. In her words, “one day, my grandfather, an American soldier, approached their house with a pistol in hand, crashed through the door and saw my grandmother. They fell in love, and he invited her to move to America.” She always had the flair of exaggeration.

She did move to Brooklyn NY, became a war bride, had three Children, lost one at three years old to Cancer, and then moved to Florida with my grandpa, dad and aunt. She loved to crochet, and made great sweaters and blankets for the family. She never returned to Germany, and past away in St. Petersburg, FL. Her daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, four grandsons, and two great grandsons survive her.

Please be in prayer for my family as we mourn another loss, my dad’s mom.
